March Newsletter 2008

Comps held the 2nd Sunday of every month at Soldiers Beach at 7am.  Next comp March 9th

Feb. Comp.

We had a great first day with the rain holding off for our first comp of the year. Surf conditions were challenging with the southerly making it a bit of a washing machine experience!  Well done to all our participants. Our thanks goes to all who helped, assembling and then cooking BBQ’s is not everybody’s idea of fun first up on a Sunday morning.  Remember if you judge three heats you get an extra name in the prize drawer.

New Sponsors

Thanks to a lot of work from Kimberley, assisted by Sandra, we would like to welcome Nissan Wyong as a major sponsor.  Jim at Nissan has offered us the use of a car for a week-end once a quarter.  What a great prize!  Look out for new flags from Nissan as well as some great cars at the comps to check out.

The Beachcomber at Toukley has offered us use of the function room for our 10th Anniversary Party.  This should be a great night, date to be announced later in the year.  We hope to get lots of previous members to come along and celebrate with us. The Beachcomber has also offered support with vouchers to be used for prizes.

Judging

Donna was able to attend recently a judging course run by Surfing Newcastle.  This course was based on the Surfing Australia Level One course and was very helpful.  Look out for judging info with your WIW e-mails in the future.

This is a great opportunity to catch up and recognize the improvements and achievements everybody has made in their surfing over the year.

Karl Hassel is again giving away a brand new custom board!

You have to be at the presentation to be in the running, so make sure you come along.

So come along and have a laugh, some food, vote in our AGM and hopefully win some goodies, the raffle, a new surfboard or even a trophy!!

See you on Sunday 9th at Norah Head Sportyz.

Hi Surfers,
Well hopefully we will be in luck for tommorrow's comp, the swell seems to have backed off. This will be our last comp for the year with December 9 being our presentation day and Annual General Meeting. This is always great fun, so mark down the day in your diaries.  Amanda will be stepping down as President so we will be looking for somone to take up that position.  Without support from members and families the club cannot operate, so if you think you have skills to offer put your hand up, we can sure use the help!
If you have not paid for your Tshirt please bring your money with you tomorrow, and also any raffle tickets you have sold.  I will have more raffle ticketbooks available tomorrow.
See you bright and early tomorrow,
Donna

Please note the next comp will be held on November 11 at Soldiers Beach. This is our last comp for the year.  Presentation Day and AGM will be held on December 9.Amanda will be stepping down so we will need someone to take over that role.  All positions will be up for election.  Remember without volunteers our club cannot continue to exist.  We will be drawing our raffle so make sure you return your raffle tickets by then.

T-shirts

There are still a few t-shirts that need to be collected and paid for, bring your money with you next comp.

The surf by Casey Mayall

The surf is a mysterious place,

Where the waves pick up a rapid pace,

As they run their quick race.

The waves tumble,

Spirits have been crumbled,

But none get left behind.

Fish swim,

Wind blows,

You might see a rainbow,

Sharks swim swiftly,

Sand blows silently,

I hope I don’t go violently.

My time is up,

The wave is coming,

My time here is done,

I’ve had a good life,

I’ve had some fun,

But now its time to go,

Here it is,

I get held down,

I can’t breathe now,

I haven’t much time left,

I’m sorry I can’t get up,

I can’t breathe,

I have no air left,

My lungs get filled,

                                                                                                          I’m unconscious now,

There’s no way out.

   I fall into a never-ending sleep,

With that person I never get to meet

Finally the pain goes away,

I’m being lifted to a better place,

I’m sorry I couldn’t stay,

And this is my way,

To a path to a better place.

BUT then,

I see a light,

I feel a breath,

Did I die, I don’t know,

Because time was going very slow,

Life, I thought was out of reach,

But now I’m here upon the beach,

And there’s that person I thought I’d never meet.

“I’M ALIVE” I scream

Then I wake up out of my terrible dream

A nice cold start for our July comp, no natural disasters, just plenty of non-competitors to share it with! A 3 foot surf suited most of the girls, with the odd bigger one swooped as well.  Rebecca put on an aggressive display in A grade, go girl!
